Permanent laser tattoo removal in Tacoma

Laser tattoo removal works by breaking up the pigment colors using a high-intensity light beam. The easiest color to treat is black since it will absorb all the laser wavelengths. For other colors used in your tattoo, specialty lasers may be required.

Our master esthetician can evaluate the tattoo you want to be removed and then use our state-of-the-art lasers to handle the process. The best part is our laser tattoo removal services are doctor-approved, which means you can feel confident they are safe, no matter the location of your tattoo.

We use the advanced Luxea IPL laser

Luxea IPL Laser

The Luxea IPL laser features a revolutionary design and amazing capabilities. The laser is an expandable modular system that uses both laser and pulsed light wavelengths. It is considered one of the most advanced technologies available today for tattoo removal.

How does laser tattoo removal work?

During our safe and effective laser tattoo removal procedure, our master esthetician will move the laser over the tattoo to be removed. Unlike laser pointers that produce a beam of light continuously, pulses of light energy are created by the tattoo removal laser.

Every pulse will penetrate the skin and the ink used for the tattoo will absorb them. As the tattoo ink particles begin to absorb the energy, they will heat up and then shatter into smaller fragments. Over the next few weeks after the treatment, your immune system will flush the tattoo ink particles away from where it is located, which lightens the tattoo’s appearance. Every laser treatment breaks down more of the tattoo ink until there is none left.

Can laser treatment remove any kind of tattoo?

While laser treatment for tattoo removal is highly effective, it is unlikely that the tattoo will completely disappear. In some situations, some colors will be more easily removed than others.

For example, black and blue tattoos will respond much better to laser tattoo removal than others. Also, there is the possibility of hypopigmentation. This means the skin that you have treated will likely be paler than the skin around it.

How to prepare

If you have scheduled an appointment for laser tattoo removal, you can do a few things to prepare for the appointment.

It’s a good idea to eat and hydrate before your appointment. If you are dehydrated or come in without eating anything, you may experience vertigo or light-headedness. While laser tattoo removal isn’t exactly painful, some discomfort is involved. Because of this, you need to make sure you have something in your system which will help keep you from fainting.

It’s also a good idea to stop smoking or cut back. If this isn’t possible, consider stopping for the treatment period. The more you smoke, the more your body’s healing process is slowed down, which can significantly increase the potential of complications that may result in an infection or scarring.

You should also avoid the sun and wear plenty of sunscreen during the process. Keep in mind that laser tattoo removal will occur over several months. During this time, staying out of the sun and wearing sunscreen is a must.

Right before your appointment, take Tylenol, which may help alleviate some discomfort. However, don’t confuse this with ibuprofen or aspirin, which should be avoided. You should wear loose clothing or avoid wearing anything over the treatment area (if possible). Be sure to avoid using perfume, lotion, or other cosmetics on the treatment area.

How long does it take?

The amount of time it will take for you to see results from laser tattoo removal depends on your body and how it responds to the treatment. The type of ink that was used also plays a role.

To eliminate a tattoo completely, you will likely need several sessions, but the results will accumulate after each one. Your sessions will be spaced six to eight weeks apart, which gives the skin plenty of time to process the treatment. Some people see fading after just three appointments.

What to expect after treatment

After the laser tattoo removal process is complete, you may notice some itching, raised areas, blistering, swelling, and redness. In fact, these are all common results of this treatment. Your skin will also feel sensitive and tender for a while. In most cases, it takes about two weeks for these issues to subside.

How many laser treatments do I need?

Laser tattoo removal is unique for each person. That’s because each tattoo is unique. The total number of sessions needed to eliminate a tattoo isn’t predictable because each person is unique. However, most patients will require a minimum of six to eight sessions. If you have a larger tattoo, then 10 or more sessions may be needed.

Can laser completely remove tattoos?

Tattoos may or may not be able to be completely removed using lasers. This depends on your body, the size and depth of the tattoo, the colors used, and other factors. In some cases, a tattoo can be eliminated, but our professional staff will be able to help you better understand what to expect for your situation.

How painful is laser tattoo removal?

Laser tattoo removal isn’t exactly painful, but there is some discomfort. It is best described as rubber bands being snapped against your skin over and over on the treatment area. As mentioned above, taking Tylenol before your session can help reduce some of your discomfort.
