What is Botox?

Botox is one of the most effective, widely used treatments to temporarily remove unwanted wrinkles from the forehead, between the eyebrows, crow’s feet and lines around the mouth.

Botox has been FDA approved since 2002 for cosmetic purposes. During that time over 11 million men and women have received Botox. At HM Advanced Skin & Lash we believe in only offering you the highest quality products and technicians; therefore, our Botox cosmetic injections are performed by our medical director Dr. Marcy Meyer, assuring that you receive the highest level of knowledge and skill.

What is Botox used for?

Over time facial muscles that are used often begin to cause deeper wrinkles and fine lines, causing one to appear much older than their actual age. Botox is injected into the muscle and blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles inhibiting that muscle from contracting, therefore relaxing and softening wrinkles.

How long does Botox last?

Typically, patients will start to see results from Botox injections approximately 3 days after the procedure, the final outcome however will take approximately 2-3 weeks. The results will vary for each individual but typically results can last 3-4 months. We recommend Botox sessions every 3-4 months to maintain a smoother more youthful appearance.

Are Botox injections painful?

Botox injections are performed using a fine needle, most patients have little to no discomfort. If you have concerns however a topical anesthetic cream can be applied.

Are there any side effects?

Immediately after treatment you may have slight redness at the site of the injection. Some patients may bruise slightly. On rare occasions patients may see an uneven smile or eyelid droop.

Is Botox safe?

Botox is derived from a substance known as Botulinum toxin, the small amounts of formula used in anti-wrinkle injections has been approved by the FDA and is considered safe. When performed by a qualified professional the risks of Botox injections are minimal. However as mentioned above there are possible side effects and rules that should be understood prior to treatment. During your consultation these will be explained to you in detail.

How much Botox will I need?

The amount of Botox cosmetic needed to achieve your desired results is dependent on the size of the area being treated and the severity of the concern.

Typically, patients can expect the following

• Frown lines average “20-30 units”
• Forehead “10-15 units”
• Crow’s feet “8-14 units”
• Mouth lines “4-5 units”
• Down turned mouth “6-10 units”
